Detroit Techno originator and head of Transmat records, Derrick May, brings his infamous Hi-Tek-Soul party back to Ministry of Sound for the first party of 2009. After an incredible two years at the club with guest appearances from Francois K, Ken Ishii, Derrick Carter, Quentin Harris, Faith, Giles Peterson, Kenny Hawkes, Kevin Saunderson, Technasia, Colin Dale and Rolando to name but a few. This next party raises the bar with another relentless line up showcasing the very best original and new Techno artists from either sides of the pond.

Derrick May, one of the original pioneers of the Detroit sound alongside Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Carl Craig. Inspired by Yello and Kraftwerk, he began to make electronic music with Atkins and Saunderson while studying with them at Belleville High, Detroit. Recording either as Mayday or Rhythim Is Rhythim (occasionally in conjunction with Carl Craig) and generally on his own Transmat Records label, he went on to carve out a new vein in dance music that synthesized the advances of the electro movement with the more challenging end of the House movement - a music that defined "Techno". Early cuts such as "Nude Photo" and "The Dance", both on Transmat, were inspirational to many. However, it was the release of "Strings Of Life" in 1987 with its wide appeal to the house music fans of the 80s & 90s, simultaneously brought May his deserved acclaim and Detroit Techno to European club-goers. His parties here at Ministry of Sound are the only place to catch him in London, on one of the best soundsystems in the UK. Continue
