Royksopp. Junior. The Three Year Wait is Over

Röyksopp's third and latest album is called "Junior" and was released on March 23rd, 2009 on Astralwerks. It follows the 2006 album "The Understanding" and 2001's greatest "Melody A.M."

Straight house, laid-back grooves, and funky masterpieces. That's what you'd expect from a new Röyksopp album, and they certainly have not disappointed. Torbjorn and Svein spent about a year in the "kitchen" carefully crafting these tasty treats making sure they had just enough for everyone's tastes. Perhaps not as intellectually jarring as your first listen to Melody A.M., but a fine continuation of their unusual art nonetheless.

The true pop/cross-over prize is Happy Up Here. A funky headtrip harkening back to the days of Eple, Happy melts over you like a warm drop of sunshine. The video is also something of a marvel; a futuristic, almost-touchable, world invaded by Atari space aliens defended by a retro-fitted taxi cab. The track is so damn catchy, I fear I might wear it out quickly via repeats. Röyksopp Forever is also an inspired journey, close to perfection and deserving of close attention.

Paul Van Dyk to Release Best Of Album VOLUME

Grammy-nominated artist, DJ and producer Paul Van Dyk will release his "best of" album, celebrating over 15 years of his musical achievements. The collection , titled "Volume", will be released in stores on June 9th and digitally on May 26th via Ultra Records.

Mr. Van Dyk is still finalizing the track list; rest assured you'll find tracks from the studio albums "45 RPM" (1994), "Seven Ways" (1996), "Out There And Back" (2000), "Reflections" (2003) and "In Between" (2007). Volume will also include the long-awaited remastered and remixed classic “For an Angel” and a brand new song titled “Home” featuring vocals by Johnny McDaid of Vega 4 who also collaborated with VAN DYK on the single “Time Of Our Lives” from Reflections.

Mr. Van Dyk will appear in a handful of venues leading up to the release and will also announce additional North American dates beginning in June.

Now you’re a firm favourite round here, but for those of our regulars who haven’t had the pleasure of listening to you play, what can they expect?
There's so much amazing electronic music out there I play the tracks that have grabbed my attention and sound exciting, edgy and fresh. The beauty of dance music is that it constantly evolves and morphs into new sounds and the quality just gets better and better. There's a real wealth of great techno and nu-disco around and I play the tracks that get me dancing and hope that conveys on to the floor.

We’re looking forward to having you down the club this Saturday, You haven’t played here since Jan the 1st. How has 09 been for you so far? Any standout gigs?
I did a Black Rabbit party in Belfast which was a lot of fun, our missdemeanours one-off party when the End closed was fantastic and Poland where I was last weekend was superb too, they know how to party in Eastern Europe.

Do you have any big plans for the year? Any releases we should be keeping an eye out for?
Now I'm producing as Dr. Strangelove with Pete Martin our tracks "Photograph & "Banshee" will be coming out this year and I'm just reallly into working in the studio at the moment. We started off doing remixes for Infadels, AHuman and David Guetta but now we've started doing our own tracks and it's really exciting. MORE HERE

Kikumoto Allstars explore House Music

Kikumoto Allstars is set to release House Music, his debut artist album, through DJ Hell's International Deejay Gigolo next month.

A relationship that began with the singles "Jack The House" and "House Music" for IDG has now blossomed into a full-blown album affair for Australian DJ/producer Cam Farrar. Unashamedly retro, the LP spans thirteen moments of late '80s influenced acidic house in an overtly revivalist mold. Cited influences include Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard, DJ Pierre, Lil Louis and Adonis, which should convey some sense of what to expect from this one. To add that additional layer of original Chi-Town authenticity, the album was apparently constructed using an analog enthusiasts wet dream list of equipment, namely the Roland TR-909, TR-808, TR-707, SH-101 and TB-303, with the Juno Jx-8p thrown in for good measure.

Communikey previews Speaking in Code

As part of its second edition, Colorado's Communikey Festival will host a special sneak preview of techno documentary Speaking in Code.

The event will take place on the first night of the three day festival. Director Amy Grill will be on hand to speak about the film, which follows Modeselektor, Wighnomy Brothers, Monolake, journalist Philip Sherburne and Grill herself with then-husband David Day along their various paths in techno. Tagged with the line, "everything changes when you get lost in music," Grill documents both the power of the music, as well as the personal sacrifices one makes when investing their time, energy and money into music.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring various North American techno promoters about the "challenges of electronic music culture" on the continent.

For those unable to make it to Colorado, the film will make its official debut later this month at the Independent Film Festival Boston.

Tiësto plays Victoria Park

Trance titan Tiësto is set to be the first DJ ever to hold his own open air concert in London's Victoria Park this summer.

The Dutch producer will be supported by electro-pop star Calvin Harris, and some very special guests that have yet to be announced. But the focus for this show will squarely be on Tijs Michiel Verwest, whose euphoric set will soundtrack the dancing of what promises to be at least 25,000 revelers.

The extravagant event will be another first for the pioneer who was the first DJ to sell out dates at O2 Arena, Brixton Academy, Alexandra Palace and 12 Mondays in a row at Ibiza’s Privilege. With VIP already sold-out at Victoria Park, this one looks to be yet another landmark for the DJ.

Villalobos heads up Nuits Sonores

Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier are amongst the headliners for next month's Nuits Sonores festival.

Lyon is France's second largest urban area after Paris, and the line-up for Nuits Sonores is definitely representative of that fact. Not only do you have the aforementioned electronic heavyweights on the bill, but joining them behind the decks will be Radio Slave, Josh Wink, Rone, Matmos, Cut Chemist, Agoria, Dubfire, Gilles Peterson, Erol Alkan and Miss Kittin & The Hacker. On top of all this modern electronic business, you'll even get a rare opportunity to catch horror-soundtracker and Goblin member Claudio Simonetti strut his stuff live, plus no-wave doyenne Lydia Lunch will perform with both her own band and Teenage Jesus And The Jerks. Things kick off on Wednesday 20th May with a showcase of London-based acts in the evening (including sets from Padded Cell, Mowgli and Joe from Hot Chip), before things move on to the spacious Marché Gare venue for the first of the three larger events, which culminate in a festival-closing set from Dave Clarke. Whether he'll wear his trademark leather trousers for the occasion still remains to be seen.

Easter Teknival on Easter Sunday

Deep As Fu*k and The Likes of You are throwing a special Easter Sunday bash, headlined by Marc Romboy, Peter Juergens (Peter Gunn) & Daniel Dreier and Swedish duo Minilogue.

Romboy's appearance may be the biggest draw, as his name is highly respected among clubbing audiences around the globe for his work as the head of the Systematic imprint in addition to his sterling tech house sets. While Romboy mostly restricts his output these days to one label, fellow headliner Juergens has no such compunctions: He's put out music on over two dozen labels, which has been snapped up by DJs such as Carl Cox, Sasha and Timo Mass. Lately, Juergens has been grabbing attention with his Peter Gunn side project. His Easter set will encompass production from both aliases. Meanwhile, Swedish techno lovers Minilogue will be performing live.

With a massive local support roster rarely seen under one roof—which includes Jamie Lloyd, Mark Murphy and Noel Boogie—the ten-hour Easter Teknival is looking like the place to be for all techno, progressive and tech house enthusiasts this Easter.

Beck's launches the Berlin Sessions

Justus Köhncke, Stimming and Marcus Worgull are set to headline 2009's Beck's Berlin Sessions celebrations.

For those who can remember that far back, 2008's Berlin Sessions was one of the more artistically interesting tours of last year, bringing Jazzanova, Quarion, and Heiko Laux to the country for a number of dates. This year's festivities will take place in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide, and will once again span the finest techno, disco, house and minimal around.

Kompakt's Köhncke and Diynamic's Stimming will be performing live—with the latter sure to be banging out tracks from his recent full-length, Reflections—while Worgull will undoubtedly bring some of the latest and greatest tracks from his Innervisions chums. Kicking off in late April, it'll no doubt be yet another Session to remember.

Exit announce back to back sets

Serbian festival behemoth Exit has revealed details of three exclusive back-to-back sessions to commemorate their tenth anniversary.

In honour of the occasion, the Anniversary Dance Arena will see a collection of major names from down the years reunited for some special celebratory performances. Carl Cox will go head-to-head with Curtis Jones' Green Velvet alter ego, UK duo Sasha and John Digweed will rekindle their time honoured DJing affilation, while Richie Hawtin will dual with his sometime M_nus cohort Dubfire. Taking place this year between 9th-12th July, the annual gathering has become one of the summer festival circuit's biggest success stories, attracting upwards of 200,000 people from all over the world across its four day expanse. Already announced for the main stage are Moby, Patti Smith, Madness, Arctic Monkeys and Kraftwerk, with further acts and "surprises" being revealed as the event draws near.

Disco Noir goes south

Newcastle-based promoters Disco Noir are heading south this weekend for their first London party.

With it being a Bank Holiday this weekend, the Sunday parties are out in force, with the Disco Noir guys choosing it for the launch of their London operations. Clink Recordings boss Camea will fly directly from her Clink showcase in Frankfurt for the event, which is taking place at the capital's LED-littered Lightbox venue. Dario Zenker will also be present, celebrating his recent Vakant release with a set of his stripped-back techno sounds. Leftroom boss Matt Tolfrey rounds off the line-up in the main room, whilst Fabric regulars The Amalgamation Of Soundz are tasked with bringing their eclectic deep house sound to room two. This isn't just a one-off for Disco Noir, however, as they're are back in the capital on May 8th with an event that boasts the debut London performance of Berghain resident Ben Klock.

Kevin Saunderson compiles History Elevate

Detroit techno innovator Kevin Saunderson is set to release a remix collection of his work in June.

Often credited as the man that brought Detroit house and techno to the masses, Kevin Saunderson has certainly cemented his place in dance music history. Hits like "Big Fun," "Good Life," "Rock to the Beat" and "Good Love" have become era-defining tracks, be it in the club or on the radio, and they've recently had a spit and polish from the generation of producers that they arguably helped to create on Saunderson's History Elevate 12-inch series. The second disc of the forthcoming compilation, which goes under the same name, will compile the tracks from the vinyl singles and also include new remixes from Smith & Selway and Ben Sims ("Rock to the Beat"), Simian Mobile Disco ("Big Fun").

The other disc is dedicated to showing off Saunderson's own remixing skills, shedding some light on some of the producer's first remixes (Wee Papa Girl Rappers, Cameo), versions of his favourite tracks (Cerrone's "Supernature") and some of his more recent efforts (Hercules & Love Affair and Simian Mobile Disco). Speaking further about the compilation, it seems as if Saunderson is still on a mission to spread electronic music to a wider audience. "We believe this project ties the past to the future, creating a launch pad for techno to spread our message far beyond... into deep space."

Defected take over Cocoon

Simon Dunmore's Defected label are set to storm Sven Vath's Frankfurt club later this month.

The event is the part of the label's 10th anniversary tour, which has taken in London and Tokyo amongst other fashionable locales. By hosting the party at Cocoon on April 25th, though, Dunmore will achieve one of his personal goals, explaining that the show has "been a long time coming as we have always had a secret craving to play Cocoon. It enjoys Champions League status, and with our first team squad fully fit we plan to go out there to enjoy the experience and give a good account of ourselves." Dunmore himself will be joined behind the decks by Defected mainstays Junior Jack, Kid Crème and Copyright as well as the label's recent signing from Madrid, David Penn.

Subversive celebrate 15th birthday

Subversive will celebrate their 15th birthday by revisiting the Cevin Fisher classic The Freaks Come Out.

Beginning life back in 1994, the UK imprint has happily danced the line between commercial success and underground recognition, outputting a total of 18 UK Top 40 singles and much more floor fodder besides. Seeing out the late '90s in a largely house music based fashion, the turn of the century saw the label partly aligned with the burgeoning progressive scene before coming full circle as the decade wore on. Artists as diverse as George Morel, Steve Lawler, Peace Division and Jark Prongo have all placed entries into the imprint's vast discography at various points in the last 15 years.

Originally released back 1999, Cevin Fisher's "The Freaks Come Out" was a chart bothering, U.S Billboard #1. The updated rendition sees a total of—count them—nine new versions: Prok & Fitch, Anil Chawla, Tim Davison, Eric Entrena, Benham & Clark, Gabriel Robella, Darren Flecta and Sharp 'n' Smooth have all been enlisted to give a new lease of life to the Tenaglia favourite.

Dirt Crew do Blow

Dirt Crew are set to release their second album in June.

The German duo are comprised of Peter Gijselaers (Break 3000) and Felix Eder (James Flavour), and made their name with early releases on Sasse's Moodmusic label and Traum offshoot My Best Friend. After releasing a collection of their early work and first full album on their own Dirt Crew Recordings label, they've returned to Moodmusic for their sophomore full-length.

Entitled Blow, the record sees the pair in a housier mood than usual, taking influence from early Chigago tracks and classic New York house as well as techier European styles. From the rolling funky bassline and dubby stabs of "Deep Cover," through to the disco-tinged house eulogy of "Parade," it's an album that will most likely see club play on housier dance floors as well as home stereos.

Flying Lotus hits Europe

Flying Lotus is set to embark on a tour of European club gigs and festivals later this month.

The LA-based beatsmith will begin his jaunt at the notoriously messy Bang Face Weekender at Camber Sands on 24th April (where he'll be joined by Zomby, 808 State and Dopplereffekt, amongst many other guests), Fly Lo will then take a quick trip over to Berlin's Berghain for a Sunday night before returning to the UK for midweek dates in Leeds and Sheffield. Gigs in Belgium, Rotterdam, Nantes, Switzerland, Nottingham, Amsterdam and Bristol follow, before the tour finishes with two large gigs for the producer. The first is at Rome's Dissonanze festival, where he'll head up a showcase of fellow LA-based beatsmiths (including sets from Daedelus, The Gaslamp Killer and Hyperdub starlet Samiyam) before moving on to help celebrate Warp's 20th anniversary in Paris. Hudson Mohawke and Aphex Twin (alongside recent live collaborator Florian Hecker) will join him at the show, but Warp have announced that there will be additional guests that have yet to be revealed

Audiojack on Australian album tour

English production duo Audiojack are set to touch down in Sydney in support of the release of their debut full-length Radio. Currently on tour throughout Australia—and having already stopped off in Perth and Brisbane—the DJ tandem will go on to play sets in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Since meeting in Ibiza in 2002, the pair have released remixes through several high-profile labels such as Renaissance, CR2, and Leftroom Limited, notably providing an internationally renowned remix for Paul Woolford's "Erotic Discourse." Audiojack first grabbed attention in 2006, though, with the release of their first original production "Robot," which has since sold over 10,000 units.

Currently signed to 20:20 Vision Recordings, Radio will be released in Australia next week.

Trentemoller takes a trip to the harbour

Danish producer Trentemøller is set to release Harbour Boat Trips - Copenhagen next month, his first foray into the realm of the mix CD.

Following in the vein of his 2006 Essential Mix, Anders Trentemoller has composed a 21 track blend of the producer's time honoured favourites, spanning four decades of music. Made up from a healthy slab of artists native to Copenhagen, the mix also manages to field appearances from Emiliana Torrini, The Raveonettes, Beach House and Alan Vega. A floor-facing DJ set this ain't.

The album will be the first in the Harbour Boat Trips series for the nascent HFN label who have decided upon a decidedly watery theme for their mixes: A selection of "outstanding artists" will be invited to commit to disc their musical interpretations of a particular harbour and its surroundings with the hope of capturing something altogether more poignant than your standard DJ mix.

Ada announces Adaptations tracklist

As we announced previously, Ada is set to release a mix of her own material later this year.

Originally planned for release this month, the collection of her tracks and remixes will now see the light of day in June. As well as including her versions of original tracks by Tracey Thorn, Booka Shade, Andi Teichmann and Brant, the CD will also feature remixes of her work from Kompakt mainstays DJ Koze, Tobias Thomas and Michael Mayer. It isn't all previously released material, however: Ada's studio-mate Dee Pulse has contributed a remix of "Fizzmann," whilst International Pony member Cosmic DJ helps out on a new version of "Blindhouse," which features the lyrics to their 2005 hit "Our House."

Aphex Twin to headline Melt! Festival

Aphex Twin is set to reprise his live partnership with Florian Hecker at this year's Melt! Festival.

The event, which takes place in between Berlin and Leipzig from 17-19 July, has been a fixture on the German festival circuit since 1997, and continues to go from strength to strength as it enters its twelfth year. Whereas there is a rock music presence at the event (Oasis, Foals, Bloc Party), the main focus is on live electronic acts and DJs, with plenty of artists on the bill that should keep RA readers happy.

Germany's electronic giants Kompakt have a big presence at the festival, with DJ Koze, Sascha Funke, Tobias Thomas and Matias Aguayo all making appearances, whilst Innervisions will compact their performance into just one set, with Âme, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz all getting behind their laptops for one of their A Critical Mass performances. They aren't the only laptop supergroup apppearing at the festival, however, as Skream, Benga and Artwork will also present their Magnetic Man project. Kode9, TRG and Goldie and Buraka Som Sistema will also be bringing the bass to the Melt! crowd, but it isn't just about techno and dubstep. There's plenty of punk-funk (WhoMadeWho, Gossip), electro-house (Tiga, Erol Alkan, Boys Noize), and electronic pop (Phoenix, Metronomy) to be seen over the course of the three days, with plenty more acts yet to be added. Eastern Electrics announces May dates

Eastern Electrics will host their first parties of the year on the first weekend of May at a secret London location.

As with their previous events, they've drafted in some of the country's biggest promoters to take over a room, resulting in two rather large line-ups that should appeal to a wide variety of clubgoers. Saturday night's main room will be taken over by the people behind last month's Bloc Weekender festival, and they've decided to cater to disco, dubstep and techno fans with their programming. Appleblim and Zomby will be booming out their bass-heavy shenanigans, whilst Robert Henke will be bringing his Monodeck along for one of his much-feted live shows as Monolake. Metro Area will also be making up for missing their flight from Dublin, and thus their set at the festival, by returning to the UK for a rare DJ set.

If Bloc don't have enough bass for you in their room, then it's more than likely that Dublime will. Mixing drum & bass (D-Bridge), jungle (Congo Natty), dubstep (Reso) and techno (Andy Stott, Brendon Moeller), revellers looking for some chest rattling action should look no further. Eclectic party crew Man Make Music will complete the bill with an appearance from San Franciscan jacker Justin Martin.

Sunday's event is dedicated to slightly smoother sounds, with mulletover, Disco Bloodbath and Freak'n'Chic all coming together to help the capital's party animals maximise their Monday off work. Dutch tech-house stalwart 2000 & One and Fabric resident Craig Richards will take the reins in mulletover's room, whilst Freak'n'Chic will showcase their sleek dance floor electronics with performances from Shonky, Seuil and label boss Dan Ghenacia. Edit wizard Loud E will be aiding the discofied decadence in the Disco Bloodbath room, and all three of their residents will also be present to show off their selection skills that you got the chance to sample on their RA podcast from earlier in the year.

Nick Warren and Satoshi Tomiie are scheduled to play Chinese Laundry's Easter Masquerade Ball, combining two of the biggest reputations in underground dance; Renaissance & Global Underground.

Warren has received substantial recognition with the famed Global Underground series, while Japanese-come-NYC tech house DJ/producer Tomiie has earned a formidable reputation as a part of Manhattan's Def Mix collective, and chief of underground label Saw Recordings. Warren will be demonstrating why he is one of the most sought after names in house, touring his recently released GU35: Lima, while Tomiie will be plugging his recent Renaissance: Master Series Pt. 9 mix.

In addition to their respective sets at Chinese Laundry, Warren and Tomiie will also be helping celebrate Darkbeat's sixth anniversary. Events are taking place in both Sydney and Melbourne. For the last six years, Darkbeat has treated Melbourne residents to a host of reputable dance names, with an honour role that includes Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli and Anthony Pappa. Brothers' Vibe, AKA Tony Rodriguez, will make his debut UK performance in London this Friday.

Rodriguez has experienced somewhat of a resurgence over the past couple of years, with releases on Mixx Records and Sascha Dive's Deep Vibes imprint bringing him to the attention of a new generation of house music fans. English club-goers will finally get the chance to see him on their own turf this weekend, with two shows planned on Friday. East Village have secured the man for their second annual all-dayer at the club, which will also see sets from D'Julz, Disco Bloodbath's Damon Martin, and East Village resident Stuart Patterson. Rodriguez's first performance of the day, however, will take place over in West London's BM Soho record shop at 5pm, where he'll play a free in-store show before venturing across to East Village. Space in BM Soho is likely to be limited, so fans wanting to feel a little bit of that Brothers' Vibe for free should head down early to assure themselves a spot in the shop.

Aphex Twin to headline L.E.V. Festival

Aphex Twin is set to make a rare Spanish performance at next month's L.E.V. Festival.

The last time that Richard D. James played in the country was at 2003's Sonar festival, so there's no doubt that his set is going to be one of the most anticipated moments at L.E.V, which takes place over the course of May 1-2 in the city of Gijon. A diverse array of artists will join James on the bill, with live performances scheduled for instrumental hip-hopper Daedelus, melodic broken beatsmith Kelpe, and Alva Noto and Byetone from the Raster-Noton stable.

Isolee and Nathan Fake will also be showcasing what they've been getting up to in the studio over the past couple of years, whilst Modeselektor and Apparat will get to the heart of what the festival is all about with a full audio/visual Moderat show, with the help of Modeselektor's long-term collaborators Pfadfinderei. Celebrated Melbourne club night The Likes of You will soon be venturing up north, with a Sydney launch date just announced for May.

The Likes of You has until now resided exclusively in Melbourne, and for the last two years has been bringing the southern city an abundance of international electronic talent, with the—excuse the pun—likes of Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Stephan Bodzin and Phonique all gracing the Pioneer 1000s. The events cater to, but not exclusively, the sounds of techno, minimal and progressive.

The team at Future Entertainment have jumped aboard for the Sydney launch, and have helped put together a massive lineup. Internationals Loco Dice, Hernan Cattaneo, Jesse Rose, Oliver $ and King Roc are set to headline, with locals still to be announced.

Sandwell District tours the States

The mystery will end for a few cities in America this month, as the shadowy men behind Sandwell District will be visiting select cities across the country.

Function and Regis are only two of the artists affiliated with the respected imprint, which garnered a nod as RA's label of the month last year, but they'll be the ones representing the label in four dates over the next two weeks. Tonight, the duo will join Berghain man Ben Klock at New York's Bunker party, but then they'll set off on their own, playing dates in Pennsylvania, Washington and California. While all of those dates are special, the final one will be for yet another edition of the Interface series, in which the stakes get raised just a bit higher each time out by the Droid Behavior crew. Considering this is their 26th blowout, expect big things from the Southern California crew as the Sandwell boys push their uncompromising techno sound.

Get Loaded In The Park have just announced the second set of acts that will play at the festival.

Get Loaded has been a fixture on London's Clapham Common since 2004, and has showcased styles from indie-pop to hip-hop throughout its five year existence. For its 2009 event, there's much more of a focus on electronic music, with Orbital already announced as headliners. Joining them in the capital on August Bank Holiday Sunday will be electro-poppers Royksopp, Laurent Garnier (who'll be performing his new album with a full live show), and German electro-clash duo Miss Kittin & The Hacker. Felix Da Housecat and Crookers will also being their respective brands of jacking electro-house to the table, and there's plenty of bass heavy shenanigans on offer from drum'n'bass heavyweights Pendulum and Chase & Status, who are responsible for Snoop Dogg's recent foray into the world of dubstep. Rome's Dissonanze Festival is set to enter its ninth year with a headlining performance from Laurent Garnier.

The two day festival will run over the course of May 8-9 at the city's Palazzo dei Congressi conference centre, and boasts a well curated line-up that should appeal to a wide variety of electronic music fans. On Friday night, festival-goers can check out the new wave of wonky insrumental hip-hop (Flying Lotus, Samiyam, Daedelus), avant-garde electronics (Atom™, Byetone) and floor-geared techno (Kenny Larkin, Moderat, Magda), with Garnier headlining the following evening with his new live show, which will showcase his forthcoming Tales Of A Kleptomaniac album.

Garnier's not the only one performing a new live show on the Saturday, however, as Âme, Henrik Schwarz and Dixon will all come together for their new A Critical Mass project, which they premiered at RA's Amsterdam Dance Event party last October. Lindstrom and Francois K will also take main stage slots, whilst the terrace has been programmed on a Afro-futurist bent, with DJ Mujava, Buraka Som Sistema and Radioclit all making appearances.

Adam K and Hook N Sling are set to compile the second volume of Ministry's Progression series.

Last year's collection focused on compiling the best electro-house anthems of 2008, but this year Ministry have widened their remit, selecting the aforementioned DJs to fashion a mix of trance, house and progressive tracks in addition to the electro-styled bangers. ARIA nominee Hook N Sling will take on the first disc, mixing up tracks from Deadmau5, Fedde Le Grand, Bass Kleph and Laidback Luke, but on his disc, Adam K has put more of a focus on his solo material. K's CD features his collaborations with Jelo and Soha, as well as cuts from Audiojack, Moguai and Gui Boratto.

Garden Festival announce additional parties

Croatia's Garden Festival have announced a series of additional parties that will take place during their two week stay in the country.

As well as sampling the delights of acts such as Gilles Peterson, Todd Terje, Lindstrøm and Rub N Tug at the festival's main events on the weekends, revellers will also have the opportunity to attend parties thrown by some of London's top promoters during the week. Giles Smith and James Priestley will precede the first weekend of the festival with one of their secretsundaze events at Barbarella's Discotheque, a terraced venue which will host all of the off-Garden Festival events. Terry Farley, Stu Patterson, Dave Jarvis and more will celebrate the 10th birthday of house institution Faith on the Sunday night, but that'll be the last party for a few days, giving you the chance to put your feet up and soak in the picturesque sights of Petrcane.

Bristol's Futureboogie crew will get the music started again on Wednesday with their Disco Heaven bash, hosting Maurice Fulton, Crazy P and Dissident owner Andy Blake, but the end of the second Garden weekend doesn't have to mean the end of clubbing at the resort. Party animals looking to stay beyond the final Garden weekend will be treated to deep house from Âme and Dixon at the Warm party, and slightly techier fare from Meat and Einzelkind on Mulletover's boat party, whilst RA will be throwing our own seafaring shindig on the 13th for all of the Garden Festival artists and staff that have been "working" over the two week period.

Cocoon celebrate 10 years in Ibiza

Sven Väth has revealed the all-star line-up that will accompany him at Cocoon in Ibiza this summer.

What with it being Sven's tenth year on the island with his Cocoon night, he's pulled out all the stops as far as bookings are concerned, hosting some of the most in-demand house and techno DJs on the scene every week. As with previous years, Cocoon will take place on Monday nights at Amnesia, and will open its doors for the first time on June 15th with Ricardo Villalobos and Cassy alongside Cocoon's own Chris Tietjen. This might seem like a staggering opening line-up, but Väth has plenty of nights like this planned for the summer, with no less than seven scheduled appearances from Ricardo, and three each for Luciano and Richie Hawtin.

Hawtin's M_nus label even get to take over the club for their own label night on September 21st, featuring live performances from Gaiser and Click Box, as well as regular DJ sets from Magda, Barem and Hawtin himself. Other guests featured at Cocoon over the season include Loco Dice, Josh Wink, DJ Sneak (who may very well repeat his back-to-back session with Villalobos), Federico Molinari, Marco Carola, Zip, Livio & Roby, Markus Fix and Raresh, whilst Martin Buttrich, Reboot and Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts will all play live. The booking policy for this year's Cocoon may be big, brash and outlandish, but to be fair, we wouldn't expect anything else from ringmaster Sven.

Now in its third year, Sander will be kicking off his 2009 ‘This Is…’ residency at Ministry of Sound with a special launch party on Saturday April 4th, with dates following throughout the year in July, October and December. Playing alongside Lifelike and Patch Park, superstar Sander will be headlining in the incredible Box room, which will be specially fitted out with the Pioneer SVM-1000 audio-visual mixer (which Kleinenberg helped develop) and 52” plasma screens, exclusively for his performances. For this is no ordinary show, Kleinenberg’s talent for creating atmospheres and captivating myriad crowds is not only down to his intoxicating sound, but also his extraordinary ability to integrate video imagery into his sets.

Sander will continue to show off his aesthetic flexibility at other residencies during the course of the year, too, including Pacha in Ibiza, Avalon in Los Angeles, and Paradiso in Amsterdam. Freerotation Festival 2009 announced

Freerotation have just announced the initial line-up for the 2009 edition of the festival, which takes place in August.

Now entering its third year, the Welsh festival looks to showcase the best in European electronic music in the quaint surroundings of Baskerville Hall, a 19th century hotel near the village of Hay-on-Wye. Instead of a whole new set of names for this year, many of the guests have played at the previous two events, with Move D, Shackleton, Bodycode, Jackmate and Uzuri boss Lakuti all returning for their third concurrent year.

There are a few fresh faces this time around, however, with Efdemin and Rndm both making solo appearances as well as performing live together as Pigon. Fellow Berlin residents Marcel Dettmann, Dandy Jack, Freund der Familie and Sven Weisemann will also make the trip over to Wales for the festival, but organisers Steevio and Suzybee have made sure that there's still plenty of homegrown talent featured on the bill. Jitterbug and Wbeeza will be representing the new house sound of London, whilst local favourites Leif and Tom Ellis will again showcase their laptop'n'bass live set. There's also a slight increase in the amount of dubstep on offer this year, albeit on a more techno-friendly tip, with performances scheduled for Narcossist, 2562 and Peverelist.

If you're looking to get tickets for Freerotation, then you will have to apply for membership first of all, which can be done over at their official site. Standard tickets come with camping, but there are also a limited amount of rooms available in the actual hotel available to hire if braving the outdoors isn't for you.

Shackleton comes to Berghain

Skull Disco svengali Shackleton will return to Berghain for the third time this Friday, headlining the club's bi-monthly dubstep party.

The event, which goes under the Sub:stance banner, is the brainchild of fellow Berlin migrant Scuba, and is the only chance you'll get to see a pure dubstep line-up in the cavernous confines of Berghain. Both Scuba and Headhunter will be showcasing their techno-cum-dubstep stylings at the night, which also sees performances from Distance, Onetake, and Jamie Vex'd.

Upstairs in Panorama Bar, Perlon will be hosting their Get Perlonized residency, featuring a headlining performance from Japanese minimalist Fumiya Tanaka. Perlon mainstays Thomas Melchior, Sammy Dee and label boss Zip will also take to the decks, in what promises to be an unmissable night for fans of both techno and dubstep.

Sinner DC prep Crystallized

Sinner DC are set to release their fourth full-length next month.

The trio, comprised of Genevan musicians Julien Amey, Steve Mamie and Manuel Bravo, have been pushing their evocative electronica since 2001, merging their sweeping soundscapes with drum machines and minimal vocals to create their own heady brew of shoegaze, techno and post-rock. Crystallized is the group's second album for Jason Smith's Ai Records, which has previously released material from Claro Intelecto, Mariel Ito and Brian Aneurysm.

Fans of artists like M83 and Ulrich Schnauss are likely to dig the skyscraping synth work and melancholic textures which are prevalent on the record, but there are also a couple of poppier moments such as "Glass Alley," where the act's throbbing synths and strings are met with a warm, yearning vocal track. Vinyl fans are unfortunately out of luck, however, as Ai are currently planning to release Crystallized on CD format only.

Global Gathering announce full line-up

Global Gathering have just announced the full line-up for their UK event, which takes place in July.

The two day festival will be headlined by Pendulum, The Prodigy and Orbital, who are reforming for various festival dates this summer. Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond will be there to keep the trance fans happy, but if that's not your cup of tea, there's lots of other stuff programmed that will keep you dancing over the weekend. Richie Hawtin will also headline his own arena, with additional M_nus performances from Gaiser, Magda and Dubfire, and there's plenty more techno from Loco Dice, Carl Cox, Joel Mull and Josh Wink.

Progressive heavyweights Sasha and John Digweed will both make an appearance, and there's a healthy smattering of electro-house from Erol Alkan, Digitalism, Steve Angello and Benny Benassi. We Love Sounds have announced the second lot of names that will appear at their June 6th event.

Armand Van Helden and James Zabiela are amongst the acts that had already been confirmed to headline the single day festival, and they'll be joined by a raft of top electronic acts at Moore Park's Hordern Pavilion. Anja Schneider and Sascha Funke will bring their own respective brands of melodic techno to the party, whilst Israeli tech-house merchant Guy Gerber will play one of his energetic live sets. Electro-house heads are well catered for, with sets coming from Chris Lake, Popof, and Kitsuné acts Guns N Bombs and Passions, whilst those looking for more of a punk-funk and disco fix will be able to check out In Flagranti and Headman behind the ones and twos.

There's also a healthy selection of homegrown talent, with recent RA podcastees Pivot and Emerson Todd taking to the stage alongside the electro-rave of the Bag Raiders, Van She Tech, and the infamous Bang Gang DJs. More names are still be be revealed, so keep your eyes on RA for further line-up announcements.

DJ Steve Angello: I Didn't Assault Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton’s claim that she was ‘assaulted’ in a Miami nightclub is being sharply disputed by the DJ who was involved in the incident.

He’s firing back at Hilton’s MySpace blog account in a Twitter posting. Hmmm...Twitter vs. MySpace?

Anyway, the DJ, Steve Angello, hails from Sweden, and his publicist told TheImproper.com that Hilton started the whole thing. On top of that, she was a total pest. (Why is this not hard to believe?)

UK publicist Matt Learmouth, who represents Angello, told TheImproper that his client does not have a “body guard” as she claims. To the contrary, he said Paris' "body guard," (could that be BFF Doug Reinhardt?) started the fight, Hilton allegedly told him to punch Angello, who claims he was "slapped" first.

Another DJ, David Guetta, who witnessed the incident, also disputes Hilton’s version of events, according to the publicist. “Her security punched him for refusing to play what she wanted. That’s what all the witnesses saw,” Learmouth said.

According to those accounts, Hilton visited the DJ booth several times and asked Angello to play hip-hop instead of techno music. What the celebutard failed apparently to realize is that the event was part of the Winter Music Conference, the largest gathering of dance music enthusiasts in the world. This year, the event was being held at the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami and the scene unfolded in the hotel's club.

Angello, who is well-known in Europe as a techno artist, was playing dance music as part of the conference, and everyone was there to hear dance music. It would sort of be the same as asking Jay-Z to play ABBA at a hip-hop music conference.

“Steve plays dance music, he just doesn’t play hip hop. He politely refused Hilton’s requests but she got more and more agitated, and it escalated pretty quickly. Out of nowhere one of her security guards smacked Steve in the face,” the Angello camp insists.

“Steve is a quiet guy, but he had to act in self defense and fought back. He started pounding on the guy and it suddenly turned into a full scale fight in the DJ booth,” according to the DJ’s version of events.

“The fact that she’s going out there, and put this stuff out has forced us to respond,” the publicist said. “Steve isn’t part of this tacky celeb world.”

“Everyone saw what happened, [from] my brother to David Guetta and his wife Cathy. We all know what happened now,” Angello wrote on his Twitter page. “For someone [Hilton] who claims to make records, don’t come into a booth and ask me to play hip-hop and then have your doorman slap me.”

Paris apparently feels she has the clout to hear whatever music she wants, whenever she wants to hear it. "Get over yourself," Angello Twitted.

Pet Shop Boys to play Roskilde

Organisers of the Roskilde Festival have just announced that the Pet Shop Boys will headline this year's event.

Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant originally made their first ever festival performance at 1997's Roskilde, and now they'll return to Denmark for a performance that will mix classic tracks with cuts from this year's Yes album. Most of the line-up that has been announced so far is comprised of big international acts (such as Coldplay, Oasis and Kanye West) and smaller rock bands, but there are still some artists that should cater for electronic music fans.

The Knife's Karin Dreijer Andersson will perform her ice-cold electro-pop under her Fever Ray moniker, whilst fellow Scandinavians Royksopp will also play live. Experimental Brooklyn trio Black Dice will also be there to show off their Repo album, but if you're looking for a more organic groove, then Afrobeat legend Tony Allen should be right up your street. Lots more acts are yet to be announced, so we'll be sure to keep you posted.

Booka Shade come to matter

Booka Shade are set to headline Zombie Soundsystem's second party at matter next Saturday.

The Berlin-based duo will bring their celebrated live set to matter's main room, which will be their first appearance in the capital since last October's gig at Koko. They'll be joined by Classic and Music For Freaks bod Luke Solomon and Zombies resident Shane Watcha, whilst Leeds-based tech-house troubadour Paul Woolford will also take to the decks for what will be his third appearance at the club.

Fellow London promoters Overload will be taking over the second room, and resident DJs Biased Guy and Schadenfreude will be joined by Diynamic's Stimming, who will play live. With his album seeing a release on the following Monday, revellers should expect to hear sneak previews of quite of a few of the tracks from Reflections when the Hamburg-based producer takes to the controls next Saturday.

Mutek announce more acts

Montreal's Mutek Festival has just revealed the second wave of performers that will grace its stages for its 10th anniversary.

Minimal fans should be quite excited by the news that Ricardo Villalobos will be making a rare appearance on North American shores, playing a marathon 7 hour set with Perlon cohort Zip. Dubsteppers are catered for by Digital Mystikz member Mala, whilst Monolake man Robert Henke will perform his and Christopher Bauder's Atom installation, which features a series of compositions played on a matrix of 64 illuminated helium balloons.

Berlin duo nsi. (AKA Tobias Freund and Loderbauer) and Sheffield-based IDM merchants Snd will both fly over to showcase their avant-garde electronics, but there's also plenty of homegrown talent on show. Recent German migrant Deadbeat and Jamaican vocalist Paul St. Hilaire will team up to recreate their collaboration on last year's acclaimed Roots & Wire LP, while his Crackhaus cohort Stephen Beaupré will play solo. The Mole, Matt Thibideau, and Martin Tétreault and Michel Langevin's ambient collaboration round off the additions, but undecided minds should hold tight until next month for the festival's final line-up announcement.

Lantern prep Monazite

Japanese house and techno label Lantern is set to release its first compilation CD this month.

Lantern is a joint operation between Plop and Spekk label owner Mondii and Tokyo-based DJ Naoki Shinohara, and focuses on the deeper side of the electronic music spectrum. Their debut compilation, entitled Monazite, takes tracks from artists on their roster (Arctic Hospital, Martin Schulte) and adds exclusive contributions from in demand producers such as Markus Fix, Sven Weisemann, Andy Vaz and Mojuba label boss Don Williams. According to Shinohara, the collection was devised to feature "artists who create highly-addictive tracks, [that are] both good for home listening and for the dancefloor." Force Inc. and Spectral Sound producer Geoff White also contributes one track, and there's also a special downtempo vocal collaboration between Lee Van Dowski and recent Planet E signing Glimpse.

John Digweed and Sasha have been announced as the headliners for this year's SW4 festival in London.

2009 marks the sixth year of SW4, and yet again it will be held on Clapham Common on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. John Digweed is somewhat of an SW4 veteran, what with him playing four out of the five previous events. "It’s fantastic to headline this year's SW4," says Diggers. "It’s a very well organised event that brings out a really cool crowd, and the line-ups always feature the cream of electronic talent. It's not often you get to play a big outdoors gig in the centre of London and each year it seems to sell out quicker!"

Sasha and Diggers will attempt to recreate the vibe of their now legendary Twilo residency with a back-to-back set that will close proceedings on the main stage. "We don’t do that many festival shows together," continues John, "so we're both really looking forward to SW4 as London is the clubbing capital in the UK and the crowd really know their music. Upstairs will be Diynamic's Satuday I'm in Love event, but if you want to get down with your head down, we'd recommend heading downstairs to enjoy the more groove-oriented sounds of this trio of imprints. The party will be the last for many of these artists at WMC, as it's set to get going on Saturday night, but expect that to prove to be its attraction: When you're playing your fifth party in as many days—as Johnny D is, for example—things tend to get a bit raw and interesting.

Henrik Schwarz, Âme, The Chap play New York

Before heading off to Miami, Henrik Schwarz and Âme will stop in New York for a Friday night show at Le Poisson Rouge.

The night will be the first time that Schwarz has played in the city in more than two years, a span of time that has seen the producer enter into the production elite via his jazz and soul-inflected compositions. Aside from traveling seemingly everywhere in the world aside from New York, Schwarz has been hard at work in the studio. In an exclusive interview with RA, Schwarz revealed that he is currently working on a new full-length and hopes to have it done by the end of the year, and is also prepping two releases for his Sunday Music imprint—one under his own name, and one by A Critical Mass (the project composed of himself, Âme and Dixon)—which are "nearly done."

Speaking of Âme, they'll be DJing on the night—their first appearance in the city since Kristian came as part of the RA night at Cielo late last year. Also featuring on the night? Electro pop weirdos The Chap, whose 2008 Ghostly International record Mega Breakfast, was described as "pop improv disco rock with strings," and one-half of the deep voiced Mister Saturday Night Eamon Harkin will open.

Donnacho Costello launches new label

Donnacha Costello has announced that he is to launch a new record label next month.

In an e-mail exchange with RA, the Irish producer also revealed that his Minimise label is now closed, explaining that "with the explosion a few years ago of so called 'Minimal', suddenly everything was mini-this, mini-that, mini-whatever; so I was starting to cringe at the fact that my label was called Minimise. When I found out there was even another guy in Italy who started a label called Minimize Records which appeared on Beatport for a short while, I could see that things had really gotten out of hand." Costello believes that the most recent releases on the label have very little to do with today's minimal sounds, adding that the label's name had him "caught in this sort of semantic stranglehold and it was just time to break free."

Costello's new label goes under the name of Look Long, which is supposed to reflect the producer's "philosophy of thinking long term, having patience, asking how I can contribute to the long term development of this music we all love." The debut release on the label is entitled "The Only Way To Win Is Not To Play The Game," and is produced by Donnacha himself, with plans for another two 12-inch singles over the next two months.

As far as the label's future plans past that point, Costello is happy to speculate, stating that he "might do some digital-only releases, there may also be some album re-releases and I have quite a bit of unreleased material that I've been enjoying for years and so I might share some of that."

Movement announce more acts

Paxahau have just released the second lot of acts that will play at this year's Movement festival in Detroit.

After announcing a flurry of big names in their initial line-up, it seems as if the team behind this year's DEMF still have quite a few surprises up their sleeves. One inclusion which is sure to raise a few eyebrows is the appearance of house legend Marc "MK" Kinchen, who will be performing live alongside his brother Scotty Deep. It's not clear whether the show is just a one-off, or the start of more live appearances for Kinchen, but their performance will be sure to be one of the most anticipated sets of the entire festival. Another big addition to the line-up is the US debut of Ame, Henrik Schwarz and Dixon's live project, which now goes under the title of A Critical Mass.

Benga and Neil Landstrumm will also venture over from the UK with their respective low-end shenanigans, whilst deep house heads should be more than satiated with the inclusion of Naked Music boss Jay Denham. The Ed Banger crew will also be present, with sets coming from label head Busy P and Krazy Baldhead, but revellers looking for some proper electro action will be glad to know that Anthony Rother will be bringing his live set to the festival.

But what about musicians from Detroit? Paxahau certainly haven't forgotten about supporting the city's grass roots, and have roped in beatdown boys Delano Smith, Mike Clark and Exchange Bureau to show festival goers how people get down in the 313. Octave One, Kevin Reynolds and Chuck Gibson (AKA Perception) will also play live at Hart Plaza, whilst original Detroit radio DJ Al Ester will be sure to pull the old school heads out of the woodwork for his set.

Morning guys, how does The Gallery find you on this fine day?
You find us smiling on this very beautiful day in Finland.

You are playing this coming Friday at The Gallery at Ministry of Sound, what can we expect from you?
As always we try to combine the sounds we love to our Dj-sets. Some electro influences, some tech sound, but still keeping it trancey, melodic and energetic. For sure we will be playing some of our older stuff, but also new tracks you haven’t heard from us yet!

What else have you been up to of late in terms of productions, remixes and other news?
We are in a continuous process writing new tracks. Some of the tracks we are writing keeping our debut album in mind and some are for release which may not be on the album. We also did remix for Ferry Corsten which is out now and we are just right now working on remix for another of the big name DJs.

What can we expect from you in the coming months and the summer season?
We just did Future Music Festival Tour in Australia couple of weeks ago where we did 7 gigs. This month is pretty busy also and we are happy to do events like The Gallery and ASOT 400 in Germany among other gigs. In May we are heading to South-Korea and then we try to cool it down a bit and spend some time in studio.

This week in Miami, Florida, Pacha NYC are throwing a series of spectacular parties for the Winter Music Conference, featuring an array of the world's hottest DJs from across the broad spectrum of dance music. From minimal techno to funky house, all areas are represented.

On Wednesday 25th March, Danny Tenaglia and the Martinez Brothers come to Parkwest Nightclub. In April we play host once again to the wonderful and vibrant world of Sander Kleinenberg as the enigmatic Dutchman returns with his dazzling video show.

A triumph for the senses, Sander’s ‘This is’ party has been reviewed to critical acclaim, his talent for creating a rare melting pot of sounds and beats catching the attention of the world’s partying public and forming the basis of an impressive International reputation.
Now in its third year, Sander will be kicking off his 2009 ‘This Is…’ residency at Ministry of Sound with a special launch party on Saturday April 4th, with dates following throughout the year in July, October and December. Playing alongside Lifelike and Patch Park, superstar Sander will be headlining in the incredible Box room, which will be specially fitted out with the Pioneer SVM-1000 audio-visual mixer (which Kleinenberg helped develop) and 52” plasma screens, exclusively for his performances. For this is no ordinary show, Kleinenberg’s talent for creating atmospheres and captivating myriad crowds is not only down to his intoxicating sound, but also his extraordinary ability to integrate video imagery into his sets.

Djuma Soundsystem are set to play five dates across Australia and New Zealand next month.

The Norwegian duo came to prominence with the ethnically tinged tech-house of "Les Djinns" on Berlin's Get Physical imprint, and since then they've been traversing the globe with a packed DJing schedule. Their April dates will be the pair's first visit to the continent, and it's all set to begin on Friday 3rd April with a show at Tramp in Melbourne, before moving on to Perth, Sydney and Canberra. Lucky revellers in New Zealand will also get to catch fellow Get Physical producer Tiger Stripes when the label's official club night rolls into town on Good Friday.

Süd Electronic have announced details of their first party of the year.

As with their previous events, the organizers are being cagey about the actual location of the bash, but we can reveal that on April 4th they'll be returning to the back rom of BG's pub in Dalston—site of their Efdemin and Jus-Ed Christmas shindig. This time around, revellers will be treated to two live sets; one from South African party animal Bodycode (who will be debuting tracks from his forthcoming album on Spectral Sound), and one from deep house producer du jour Move D.

As if that wasn't enough, D will also showcase his skills behind the ones and twos, taking to the decks for a mammoth three hour DJ set on top of his live performance. Uzuri Recordings boss Lakuti will round off the party, attendance of which will be limited to just 300 spots.

Jeff Mills is set to headline Sónar's UK warm-up party at The Roundhouse in May.

The Detroit don will be performing his "The Trip" show, which sees him soundtracking a selection of scenes from classic science fiction movies. Erol Alkan also has something special up his sleeve for the event: He'll be unveiling his Disco 3000 project in the live arena for the first time. Expect plenty of exclusive edits of obscure disco from Alkan, with Moderat set to provide support.

Radio 1's Mary Anne Hobbs will be hosting the second room, with a heavily dubstep focused line-up. Tectonic owner Pinch will headline, with other sets coming from Hyperdub's Ikonika, Bullion and Hobbs herself. Most of these acts will be at the actual Sónar festival in June, but Jeff Mills fans may want to check out his show, seeing as it's only the second time that he has ever performed it.

We’re pleased to welcome good friends and incredible DJs in their own right, Krysko and Dom Chung. Matthew Krysko is resident of the almighty Warehouse Project in Manchester. A party that has breathed new energy into the city’s clubbing landscape, helping to fill the gap left by the Hacienda.
Dom Chung on the other hand joins us from Liverpool clubbing institution Chibuku hot on the heels of playing at their birthday at Nation last Saturday, coincidentally also alongside Derrick May.

Normally separated by the M62 tonight, they both play in The Bar, keeping it somewhere in between Tech House and Techno. Expect some good musical chemistry and dare we tempt fate by suggesting a bit of back to back action? Fingers crossed!

DJ Shadow for DJ Hero?

More details have emerged about the forthcoming DJ Hero video game, which is set for release sometime this year.

Created by Activision, the company behind the Guitar Hero franchise, the game will be packaged with a hardware controller that looks similar to a standard CD turntable. According to The Daily Swarm, turntablists DJ Shadow and Z-Trip have been helping out with the development and testing of the hardware, and will both appear as playable characters in the final version of the game. Early reports that suggested a high level of involvement from trance star Tiesto have now been downplayed, although there are fresh rumours that both Daft Punk and Mix Master Mike will be involved somehow. There is still no word of who will adorn the cover as the game's actual "DJ Hero."

Activision CEO Thomas Tippl has also stated that he thinks that DJ Hero will appeal to a younger demographic than its rock-oriented predecessor, and plans to ship 1.5m copies of the game when it hits shops in June of this year.

Superfreq opening delayed

Mr C's Superfreq party have been forced to reschedule its plans due to ongoing construction work at Cable.

The original plan was to host the Superfreq relaunch on Saturday 9th May, but Mr C and fellow Superfreq promoter Luke vB have been forced to relocate for a special one off party. Not ones to settle for second best, the pair have secured the services of London's swanky Paramount club, entrance of which is usually reserved for its high flying members. High flying is probably the right turn of phrase, as the 450 capacity club is situated on the 31st floor of a building that overlooks Tottenham Court Road, promising some breathtaking views when the sun comes up over the city in the morning.

Poker Flat head honcho Steve Bug will headline the event, which also sees performances from Chilean techno doyenne Dinky and Superfreq residents Dollz at Play. Tom Middleton asks for One More Tune

Tom Middleton has unveiled details of his latest mix project, which goes under the title of One More Tune.

As the name suggests, the compilation sees Middleton selecting 13 of his favourite end of the night classics and mixing them into one long dance floor farewell. According to Middleton himself, the collection includes some tracks that are "familiar, others more underground, yet all truly memorable, rich in harmony and emotion. It also provides a fantastic opportunity to re-define a handful of personal favourites." Finding their way on the comp are bone fide crowdpleasers such as Joe Smooth's "Promised Land" and Derrick May's "Strings Of Life," with other inclusions coming from Agora Rhythm, Last Rhythm, Shur-i-kan and Middleton himself.

Middleton seems well aware of the potential pitfalls that could befall such a mix, explaining that "sequencing a compilation of unsubtle anthems isn’t an easy process, so be prepared for more than a few euphoric hands in the air moments! Most importantly, each track represents an unforgettable club or festival moment during the last two decades." DJs looking to sprinkle a bit of his magic onto the end of their own sets will also be pleased to hear that the mix will be supplemented by an unmixed CD of Middleton's remixes and edits for the project.

Holger Zilske preps new album

Holger Zilske will release his debut album under his birth name later this year.

Older electronic music fans may be more aware of his melodically maximal tech-house as Smash TV on Ellen Allien's BPitch Control, but nowadays Zilske is focusing on producing more subtle minimally-inclined pieces for imprints such as Leena, Battle and Playhouse. It's the latter label that will host his first album as Holger Zilske, which is simply titled Holz.

Zilske's hardcore followers will be glad to know that the album is composed of ten previously unreleased tracks, allowing them to treat the album as a singular listening experience. Surprisingly, the album even features two vocal contributions from syrup-voiced Swedish singer August Landelius on "Golden" and "Have A Cup Of This." Apart for the vocals, though, Zilske's hallmarks are all present, so you can expect skippy beats, eerie sounds and modulations aplenty when the record drops in May.

Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas take II

Scandinavian disco kings Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas are set to release the follow up to their widely acclaimed eponymous debut this year.

The duo have had quite a journey since the release of their debut three years ago, with Thomas completing countless remixes and seeing his Full Pupp stable go from strength to strength, whilst Lindstrøm went on to release his solo cosmic disco opus, Where I Go You Go Too. Both of them have been busy in the studio together during their time back in Oslo, and the fruits of their labour are now finally ready for release.

Whilst Lindstrøm has always been one for using live instrumentation in the studio, Thomas' gradual shift into using more and more live elements in his solo work has meant that their second collaborative album, entitled II, has a much looser, organic feel than the first record. The original intent stands, however, as they merge their italo, Krautrock and disco influences into a lush singular whole, imbuing them with their characteristically warm production sheen. Released just in time for summer, it looks as if the Nordic duo are looking to compete for part of your personal sunshine soundtrack this year.

The trio of Romanian producers that go under the Ar:pia:r banner have announced that they are canceling all immediate Australian, Asian and US dates.

Citing personal reasons, Raresh, Petre Inspirescu and Rhadoo have returned home to Romania after reportedly making it all the way to Australia for their upcoming gigs this weekend.

Replacing the trio at this weekend's Pulse Radio boat party will be Circo Loco vet Jo Mills, but no news has been released yet as to what will happen with the other gigs that have been scheduled.

Proton get frisky in Miami

Proton Radio and friskyRadio have got together to show off their resident DJs at this year's WMC in Miami.

These aren't just any old resident DJs, and it isn't your typical venue either. On March 26th, the Proton and frisky lot will hijack Hot Tuna, which is normally an Asian rock'n'roll restaurant. Air guitars are out and progressive house is in, however, with guests including both Bedrock producer Pole Folder and Jody Wisternoff, who made his name as half of progressive duo Way Out West. Digweed favourite Royal Sapien ventures down from NYC for the show, while the line-up is completed by Proton and frisky's Dutch representatives, Miss Nine and Eelke Kleijn.

Marco Carola mixes Time Warp

Time Warp has announced that Marco Carola will mix a compilation in advance of the festival.

The Italian DJ has taken to the decks to craft a two disc mix that takes in a host of sounds, including—in a nod to the festival's locale—a number of Mannheim producers. When asked why he's taken to the deep house sound emanating from the city, Carola told RA that the producers there "have a style that is very suitable to the style of my sets… with a lot of groove and energy. And the new scene in Mannheim reminds me a lot of the old Neapolitan producers back home."

Carola, among many other DJs, will appear on April 4th at the Mannheim party in what has become the unofficial first summer festival for ravers and DJs alike.

We’re pleased to announce Ministry of Sound is now the exclusive London home of VIVa Music. After the roadblock that was the first VIVa Music party back in January, with Steve and special guest Adam Beyer rocking the Box to a packed house till gone 7am. We can now confirm that VIVa will be back throughout the year with three more special parties.

Steve had this to say about the launch: “The First party was a huge success; we had Viva music artists in every room. The main room at Ministry is undoubtedly one of the best rooms in the entire world. Claude VonStroke will take the reins of the next edition of the Fabric mix series.

The Dirtybird label head is the 46th act to mix it up in the studio for the venerated night club and, according to the San Francisco-based DJ/producer, it's very much a studio mix. "Everything is really tailored; the tracks aren't really the tracks, it is all cut up, chopped and twisted." Over the course of the disc, we get more than 20 tracks with many of them blended together seamlessly enough that they don't even warrant a track index. The biggest surprise, though? For a guy known for such banging and messy sets, there are two Stimming tracks—the Diynamic artist best known for heartstring-pulling tech house.

VonStroke explains it thusly: "It's challenging to do a project that has to say everything in such a small time frame because I play a lot of genres….I wanted to create a greasy, dirty vibe but also get melancholy and funky—a little hard here, a little soft there. I picked the best music I could find and put it together in a creative way that fully represents my sound and personality."

Bang Gang come to Berlin

Australia is more than just kangaroos, boomerangs and Foster's: It also birthed The Bang Gang Deejays, a collective which have been hosting and DJing parties throughout their home continent, and are now touring Europe in support of their 2008 RA-approved mix extravaganza D Is for Disco, E Is for Dancing.

Bang Gangers Hoodrat and Doom will bring their hodgepodge tactics to Berlin's Scala Club this weekend for a party which will also feature a co-headlining live set from Aussie psychedelic rock group Tame Impala. Rounding out the bill are London's Jerry Bouthier and Paris's Misty Rabbit, plus a host of local Berlin talent.

If you appreciate a wide variety of sounds and think that fresh air is overrated, you might want to check out Scala this Friday. Just please don't request that "Land Down Under" song.

Konrad Black mixes Watergate

As RA previously reported last month, Konrad Black will be the next to take the reins of the Watergate mix series.

What we couldn't tell you last time, however, was much else. Details about Black's mix, though, have just been released. The mix is set for release on May 17th and will contain at least two unreleased tracks. One is a collaboration between Black and Loco Dice production hand Martin Buttrich called "Siamese Connection," while the other is Mathew Jonson's "Walking on the Hands That Follow Me," the title track from Wagon Repair's forthcoming 50th release.

Previous mixes in the Watergate series have come from Sascha Funke and Onur Özer.

Pinch readies more Tectonic Plates

Dubstep imprint Tectonic Recordings will once again showcase its wares for the CD buying public this spring when they release the second edition in their Tectonic Plates series.

The Bristol label is owned by Pinch and he has gathered together tunes from some of dubstep's leading lights. Martyn, 2562, Skream, Benga, Flying Lotus, Joker and Pinch himself all feature on the two disc compilation. And, as if you needed further proof that dubstep and techno are engaged in a love affair of late, Berlin's Shed shows up with a remix of Peverelist as well. All of the tracks included on the first disc will comprise "the entire imminent, and as yet unreleased, four part 12-inch vinyl Plates series in all its glory" with the second disc taken up by a mix from Pinch which "brings together highlight cuts and unreleased tracks."

Desolat label head Loco Dice will come to the Leeds fresh from his triumphant 300 tour for another special show in which he will play on three decks.

The Dice man will be following in the large footsteps of Cox and Milligan on the night, which sees him taking over the Mint Club in the city for the System night. Detroit Techno originator and head of Transmat records, Derrick May, brings his infamous Hi-Tek-Soul party back to Ministry of Sound for the first party of 2009. After an incredible two years at the club with guest appearances from Francois K, Ken Ishii, Derrick Carter, Quentin Harris, Faith, Giles Peterson, Kenny Hawkes, Kevin Saunderson, Technasia, Colin Dale and Rolando to name but a few. This next party raises the bar with another relentless line up showcasing the very best original and new Techno artists from either sides of the pond.

Derrick May, one of the original pioneers of the Detroit sound alongside Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Carl Craig. Inspired by Yello and Kraftwerk, he began to make electronic music with Atkins and Saunderson while studying with them at Belleville High, Detroit. Recording either as Mayday or Rhythim Is Rhythim (occasionally in conjunction with Carl Craig) and generally on his own Transmat Records label, he went on to carve out a new vein in dance music that synthesized the advances of the electro movement with the more challenging end of the House movement - a music that defined "Techno". Early cuts such as "Nude Photo" and "The Dance", both on Transmat, were inspirational to many. However, it was the release of "Strings Of Life" in 1987 with its wide appeal to the house music fans of the 80s & 90s, simultaneously brought May his deserved acclaim and Detroit Techno to European club-goers. Later on in the week Tomiie and Romero will go poolside with Guendalina of Italy where Def Mix friend Eric Kupper, Phase Deux Musiq's Franck Adam and Richie Jones will all join together to spin some records to the deep and faithful.

Ultra Afters line-up announced

For those wondering what to do after Ultra Music Festival ends on Saturday, wonder no more: Details for the only official after party of the event, which will feature Paul Oakenfold, Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Tenaglia, Fedde Le Grand and more, have been announced.

Held at Soho Studios, the party will go from 10 PM until God knows when, and have some of the biggest names in dance music on hand to ensure it gets there. There'll be a breakbeat and drum & bass room, but the focus will surely be on the aforementioned big names who have enough WMC experience between them to know exactly how to keep the party going after the marathon that is Ultra.

Nic Fanciulli kicks off a new GU series

Grammy nominated DJ/producer Nic Fanciulli will unleash the first in a new series of mixes from Global Underground next month.

Entitled Global Underground DJ, the series is said to "put the power in the hands of the DJ to take the listener on a complete introspective musical journey across two discs. The DJ is given free reign to compile two mixes spanning their influences and heroes while putting their own inimitable take on it."

Global Underground, which usually specializes in compilations that matches up a DJ and a locale or brings a new DJ to the broader public via their Nubreed series, hasn't had a series quite like it before but Fanciulli looks to have started it off in style. The mix, which we haven't heard yet, looks to move from Metro Area's disco to the Detroit techno of DJ Rolando to Hessle Audio dubstepper Pangaea on the first disc and then from house to minimal to Detroit techno on the second disc, showcasing many of the influences and tunes that Fanciulli takes with him in his box around the world.

Diynamic goes to WMC

Diynamic Music, home to Stimming, Solomun, H.O.S.H. and many other artists, will be coming to Miami for the first time in 2009 as part of the Winter Music Conference.

The label will be participating in two joint parties during the week of revelry. The first will be in conjunction with Ben Watt's Buzzin Fly imprint, which will see the trio match up against Ewan Pearson, Justin Martin, Will Saul and Mike Monday at Skybar for a seven-hour sunset party on Thursday evening.

On Saturday, the label will be bringing its young "Saturday I'm in Love" party to the Electric Pickle, in which they've invited over some of Poker Flat's best, including Martin Landsky, Dan Berkson & James What and Vincenzo to help take care of business. Troy Pierce and Gibby Miller's Louderbach project will unleash its second album for the Minus imprint next month.

The duo teamed up in 2004 on the Underline label, taking Miller's vocals and marrying them to Pierce's minimal techno productions. Their love of early industrial and post-punk such as Bauhaus, Coil and Joy Division was readily apparent and that's reportedly no different on Autumn, which will hit stores in April. Minus says that "distant intimacy is a naturally occurring theme throughout the album, manifesting itself as dark, twilight tales of melancholy romance, burning obsession and the slow, disintegration of desire."

Eager to see what "the slow, disintegration of desire" looks like on film? M_nus is as well, which is why they've set up a contest for aspiring filmmakers. They're looking for three-minute submissions that could conceivably serve as the video to "Shine," the first single from the album. For more details click on over to the M_nus site.

The Chemical Brothers and The Orb, among many others, have been added to this year's Coachella line-up.

The two acts are only the tip of the iceberg of electronic acts that have been added to the California festival's bill: Frenchies Busy P and Etienne De Crecy and renowned breaks duo Plump DJs will also be on hand to add to the lineup that has acts from all over the musical spectrum. SCI+TEC touch down at the WMC

Washington-based tech-house label SCI+TEC Digital Audio will host a party at Kore Ultra Lounge in Miami this month.

Taking the headlining spot is the label owner himself, Dubfire. Ali Shirazinia's a busy man at this year's conference, with this performance being one of four sets throughout the week. The other SCI+TEC man to appear on the line-up is young Parisian Paul Ritch, who will be playing live, whilst Oliver Huntemann will make his only WMC performance at this party. Italian techno stalwart Davide Squillace will round off the bill, which should cater well to revellers who want to start their WMC with a night of dark, no-holds-barred dance floor techno.

Jo Mills tours Australia

London DJ Jo Mills will travel Down Under this weekend for two Australian gigs with dates scheduled for Melbourne and Sydney.

Mills will start the weekend in Melbourne playing alongside Italian Andrea Bertolini amid the couches and beanbags at Brown Alley, and finish things off in Sydney at the KINK party where she will be preceded by resident KINK spinner Ben Morris and more for a two room night that's sure to be a banger. Mills, of course, hosted The Looking Glass room at Pete Tong's Wonderland night last year in Ibiza, so expect an intimate night full of upfront tunes—and a few certified classics as well.

Mobilee hit Miami

Mobilee are set to round off the WMC weekend with a label showcase.

In previous years, the Berlin-based techno imprint have usually plumped for daytime rooftop parties, but 2009 is the year that they'll take things to the club. Dan Curtin, Miss Jools and label co-founder Ralf Kollmann will all make their exclusive WMC performances at the bash, which takes place at the recently rebranded Studio K in Downtown Miami's Park West district. Anja Schneider and GummiHz will also make appearances behind the turntables, which is sure to attract a big after hours contingent due to it being one of the last parties to finish on Monday morning.

Daedelus plays Fergie's birthday at WMC

Daedelus will fly over to the East Coast for what promises to be a strange gig at this year's WMC in Miami.

The wonky hip-hop producer will be joined by The Gaslamp Killer and MRK 1 on Friday 27th March for Fergie's birthday. Yep, that Fergie.

It's unclear whether the singer of the Black Eyed Peas is a fan of avant-garde beat trickery, although we do know that will.iam loves himself some M.A.N.D.Y. Either way, expect a big cake and a lot of tears when will takes to the stage for his performance at South Beach's 1300-capacity Dolce club.

The organisers are currently selling VIP tickets for $100, but revellers wanting to just go and check out the music instead of hanging around celebrity spotting can pick up a standard ticket for just $20.

Hybrid take to The Gallery

Hybrid are set to headline Ministry Of Sound's The Gallery party later this month.

The breakbeat and house duo have recently been working on the soundtrack to the upcoming X-Men spin-off, Wolverine, and will play their first UK date of the year at The Gallery on Friday 20th March, before jetting off to Miami for this year's Winter Music Conference. Progressive house stalwart Nick Warren will join them in the main room, whilst the bar will host progressive sounds old and new, with sets coming from 16 Bit Lolitas, Nicole Moudaber and John Graham (AKA Quivver).

Jesse Somfay has a catch in the voice

Fans of Border Community-style electronica rejoice: Canadian producer Jesse Somfay will release a double disc collection of new material later this month.

Somfay has been relatively quiet over the past year, aside from a release of archival material, but he'll return with A Catch in the Voice, nearly two hours of what Archipel is claiming sounds like "Boards of Canada working with James Holden or Minilogue." Judging from Somfay's previous work, we have no doubt that's the case.

To celebrate the release, the label has announced that there will be 50 limited-edition collector's versions of the album made available, which will be hand numbered and contain a number of Polaroid pictures taken by Somfay. Get 'em while you can, though, as if they aren't sold out already, they soon will be.
